Tree Nurseries
20,000 TREES
This year 20,000 seedlings were started in the Mumba Tree Nursery. 17,000 of these seedlings were distributed to area schools, churches, villages and private individuals. The trees planted this year are mostly for wood lots which will eventually be harvested for boards and firewood.
Most people in Tanzania use wood or charcoal as their fuel source for cooking so there is a great need for more trees.
Gifts to the Tree Nursery project provide education and training in sustainable tree farming. Local people may buy the seedlings at less than actual cost while still participating in the purchase and therefore the responsibility and accountability of project ownership.
